In order to get an early start, we began our climb on Friday evening after a fine dinner at the rustic Paradise Inn. We started up the trail in a light drizzle at 8 PM, hoping to break out above the clouds soon. Above Pebble Creek, near 8000 ft, we broke free into the moonlight. The snow was firm and bright enough to walk without headlamps. We made steady progress, reaching Muir by 1 AM and setting up camp. We slept in late the next morning, waking up at 10 AM to look down on the clouds still firmly entrenched below. Looking south (back towards Paradise) from below our tents, we see the Guide Service hut with Mounts Adams (center) and Hood (right) visible in the distance.
