The Three Summits of Mt Rainier
Saturday morning and afternoon we could see many parties returning from the summit to Camp Muir. The climbing route above Muir traverses the Cowlitz Glacier, then climbs loose scree and ash through Cathedral Gap (10700 ft) to reach the Ingraham Glacier (hidden behind the ridge). We ate dinner early Saturday afternoon, then napped until 9 PM and set off in the dark at 10 PM, roped up in three teams of three climbers each. We were the first group that night to start out from Camp Muir for the summit.
