We left the trailhead at Schriebers Meadow (3200 ft) early Saturday afternoon, carrying our skis on our packs up the dry trail three miles to the Railroad Grade (a large moraine along the west side of the Easton Glacier). We reached snow just above 5000 ft and began skiing uphill just west of the Railroad Grade. We ditched our packs in a large basin near 5900 ft and decided to ski up for a quick run. Visible behind Alex are the Black Buttes, rocky lava pinnacles eroded from the west flank of Mount Baker, with the Deming Glacier below.
