This map gives an overview of Crater Lake. The Crater Lake Lodge is located on the south rim at 7100 ft, with our original objective of Mt Scott just east of the lake. Since the ranger station had closed by the time we arrived, we were unable to get a camping permit. We decided to just bivy in our sleeping bags near the crater rim, hoping to catch a memorable sunrise. We chose a scenic spot on the west rim (marked with a star), just behind Wizard Island.
