We made steady progress up the smooth snow slopes of the upper glacier. This photo is good evidence of this year's extraordinary snowpack, for the smooth slope ahead towards the Coleman-Deming saddle would be completely shattered by crevaasses in a more typical June. Because of the minimal crevasse hazard, we chose not to rope up on the ascent despite bringing full glacier gear with us.
