The next morning we set off from camp by 5 AM, hiking up loose talus and scree to reach the toe of the Sitkum Glacier. Although the Sitkum is fairly inactive and lightly crevassed, the three of us roped up for safety and climbed up the firm snow with crampons. Behind us, the sunrise illuminated the prominent notched spire of Sloan Peak, with the nearly full moon centered above it.
