As we approached the base of the summit pyramid, we could see a bergschrund (a large crevasse at the upper edge of a glacier) extending across much of the Sulphide Glacier. To pass around it, we aimed for the right edge of the pyramid, where there appeared to be a crevasse-free route to the rock. Visible below the left edge of the pyramid is bare glacier ice, where the wind has scoured out a large bowl-shaped depression in the snowpack.
