We set out from the Schriebers Meadow trailhead under bleak, gray skies Saturday morning. At least the clouds kept the weather cool during the hike up to our campsite at 5900 ft, just west of the Railroad Grade moraine. As we hiked up the lower portion of the Railroad Grade, the sun made one of its few appearances of the entire weekend, providing this fine few of the Easton Glacier flowing down from the summit of Mount Baker. Our ice climbing practice area is along the left edge of the heavily crevassed lower lobe of the Easton.
