Off to the east, the clouds slowly parted, revealing the nearby volcanic cone of Pelican Butte (8036 ft / 2449 m) just beyond Fourmile Lake. Immediately below us is a steep drop-off into the Northeast Bowl. Our ski route would eventually exit the bottom of this bowl by following the continuous snow through the old moraines at right center.
