Page History: |
|
December 2015 | Original version with 33 camera views in 5 rows,
designed based on the Lassen Peak WebCams page,
with some cameras from the long-unmaintained Sierra Nevada Mountain WebCams page,
and image sizes reduced from 360-270-180 to 320-240-160 pixels high for large-medium-small options
Includes the option to show the last 24 hours of data from several regional SNOTEL and
California Cooperative Snow Surveys hourly telemetry sites below the webcams
Expanded to 44 camera views in 6 rows, extending west to Rocklin in the Central Valley and east to Reno
|
January 2016 |
Initially extended this page's scope northward and updated the title to include "Northernmost Sierra Nevada", as there appeared to be only a handful of
webcams and telemetry sites along the SR 49 / SR 70 / SR 89 corridors which fell south of the scope of the
Lassen Peak WebCams page, so it seemed natural to include them here
But later had second thoughts, as the northern extension quickly grew in size, and decided to split it off into a separate
Feather River & Northernmost Sierra Nevada WebCams page
Expanded (and contracted) to eventually include 63 camera views in 8 rows, adding Auburn Municipal Airport, Moody Ridge,
9 more Nevada DOT cams along I-80 and US 395, and 8 more cams in Reno including the Tahoe Fire Camera at the NWS Reno Office, Truckee Meadows CC, the KRNV SkyCams,
Whitewater Park, and North Valleys High School
Added telemetry data from the Central Sierra Snow Lab (the adjacent SNOTEL site was already included),
along with 4 more CCSS telemetry sites west of Donner Summit with precip data
Wrote a script for the Pilot Peak CCSS site (later moved to the
Feather River & Northernmost Sierra Nevada WebCams page) to convert the half-hourly "event" data
into normal-looking hourly data columns, as this site has none of its data in standard hourly columns for some strange reason
This script was also used to convert the Bowman Lake and Huysink sites' quarter-hourly precip "event" data into an hourly data column
(it's unclear why the CDEC website can't simply copy the "event" data into the hourly data, it does so for some sites already but not others)
Later wrote a new external script to grab data from CDEC (such as the
California Cooperative Snow Surveys telemetry sites), which downloads the data and formats it to match the style of the SNOTEL data, the script makes maintenance of these
pages much easier by moving all CDEC telemetry code into a single location instead of separate code on each individual California Mountain WebCams page
Added image modification times for over 30 images which did not have timestamps, including all of the Nevada DOT cams (why are they not timestamped??)
Added an option to disable the Nevada DOT cams (by appending "&nv=off" to the URL) if this page is not loading properly,
as server issues on that website are often the cause of such problems
|
February 2016 |
Expanded to 65 camera views rearranged in 9 rows, adding 2 more Sugar Bowl Ski Resort cams, and also improved all Sugar Bowl cam location info and captions
Major internal PHP code cleanup, updating and/or deleting legacy code left over from very long ago, from the
Mount Rainier Paradise WebCams webpage (March 2009) on which all of these "Webcams + Telemetry Pages" are based,
and even from the original Washington Mountain WebCams webpage (December 2004) on which the Rainier page was based
Added descriptive dividers between major subregions of the webcam images, to clarify the layout of this fairly large and complex page
Added 5 more regional RAWS hourly telemetry sites
which have precip, wind, solar, and other sensors (but not snowdepth), data from 1 of these sites is available on the CDEC website, the other 4 sites (including 1 in Nevada) only via
MesoWest
Added 2 telemetry sites at Sugar Bowl Ski Resort, which have data available via the Desert Research Institute on
MesoWest,
and switched the Central Sierra Snow Lab data to the version from MesoWest to match the style of the other telemetry sites
|
March 2016 | Fixed all Weather Underground camera URLs, which now apparently need "?time()" appended in order to update properly |
December 2016 |
Expanded to 72 camera views in 10 rows, adding the new Tahoe Donner Alder Creek Adventure Center panorama cam, 2 more new Nevada DOT cams along I-80, and
4 more new Tahoe Fire Cameras at Sage Hen, Mount Lincoln, Peavine Peak, and Virginia Peak, plus fixed some camera URLs which had changed
Added the new Tahoe Donner RAWS telemetry site, which was installed in August 2016
